About the Founder
Tamara Gordon (Tammy) is a Canadian citizen, born to Jamaican parents. In her early school years, she developed a passion for sports and became extremely skilled in many sports, especially basketball. Her athleticism and dedication were clear, evidenced by the many trophies, medallions, All Stars and ‘Most Valuable Player’ Awards she received.
In 2002 Tammy was severely injured in a skiing accident that left her paralyzed and confined to a wheel chair. This was a pivotal time for her and resulted in major changes in her life style and a reassessment of her life goals.
She refused to allow her accident to victimize her or kill the dreams she had. After her accident she continued to pursue her studies despite being paralyzed from the waist down as a result of damage to her spinal cord, and despite the loss of use in her left and dominant hand due to a brachial plexus injury, as well as problems with defective eyesight brought on by diabetes, which she contracted following her accident.. Notwithstanding these obstacles, she graduated from College Street Secondary School with an overall average of 91% as an Ontario Scholar and went on to graduate in June 2009 from York University with a degree, in B.A.S., Spec. Hons. Administrative Studies, (General Management). With the distinction Cum Laude and also recognized as a Member of Dean’s Honour Roll.
Tammy is the proud recipient of over 60 academic scholarships and awards and most recently received A Diamond Jubilee Medal Award from His Royal Highness Prince Charles of Wales.
Tammy has extensive volunteer and work experience too numerous to mention; as well as serving on organizational Boards or Committees where her expertise is coveted. She is very involved in her community events, providing donations and gifts of various sorts, as well as special services to assist youth, the disabled, and seniors.
She is a hardworking enthusiastic individual who has actively taken the challenges of her situation and allowed it to work positively in her life, while trying to make a difference in the lives of others. As a Motivational Speaker she is always on the move sharing a story of Hope, Encouragement and inspiring others to become their best.
Tammy’s has such a passion for helping others that she recently established the Tammy Gordon Foundation. This foundation will assist Tammy to reach even more people; focusing especially on minorities, youth, the economically challenged, and people with disabilities. It will also, provide scholarships to persons with a disability that would like to achieve their educational dreams.
